The steps in your small business copywriting project
I’m based in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Most of my work is done remotely.
- We’ll start with an introduction call to talk about your business and which services would be the best fit.
- I’ll put together a proposal package listing the services and order of work. You’ll also get a commencement invoice.
- If everything looks good, your first payment gets things started.
- The next steps depend on the types of service you selected. Detailed steps are on the individual service pages.
Welcome sequences and newsletters build customer loyalty. Learn how to get the power of email marketing working for you.
After initial discussions and groundwork are done, things can hum along with minimal involvement from you. Once your main website pages look good, you might want to write occasional blog posts (I can help with that). I’ll contact you regularly to get material for your newsletters.

Copywriting FAQ
What is copywriting?
“Copywriting” is part of marketing. It is writing used to persuade or sell. It includes aspects such as:
- Explaining the benefits of a product or service (as opposed to the features)
- Considering the reader’s stage of awareness and the reader’s motives
- Using the voice of the brand
- Addressing potential concerns of a reader
- Researching the voice of customer and using reader-centric language
There are many other considerations to writing great copy. You can see examples of copywriting on bus shelter ads, online ads, brochures, marketing emails and website pages.
What's the difference between copywriting and content writing?
While the dividing line between these can get a bit blurry, in general copywriting is used to persuade or sell while content writing is used to inform and educate. On a website, a product description page would use copywriting, while a blog post would use content writing.
What is SEO copywriting?
Any writing on a website can use SEO best practices. Each website page can have a focus keyword and keyword synonyms. These should be worked into the copy in a natural-sounding manner. Keywords should be used in headings, especially a page’s H1 heading. Keyword-focused and attention-grabbing Title Tags are very important factors in SEO and they should be carefully crafted.
